Hi! I'm Halca, but my real name is Jordan! I'm a software architect now, from the United Kingdom. I was originally the developer of hAthena, a proof-of-concept Ragnarok Emulator, but I was also a developer for OmniAthena, and also a life-long RO player. I spend most of my time developing Dynastra Tabletop, my TTRPG/Virtual Tabletop project designed to replace Roll20 and D&D Beyond.

We've had quite a crazy year or so here at ragnarok.wiki. Originally when the wiki was started, I wanted to write a few articles and slowly document out the various aspects of the history of private servers in Ragnarok Online alongside what was happening in Gravity, and we've ended up finding a few discoveries and encountering a pretty steady number of visitors which has been growing over the last year or so.

I've had a very busy personal life, with work and home life being very demanding, it's been hard to contribute as much as I'd like to the wiki, but, where I find time I've done so. I'm committed to keep updating the site and expanding it, and I think now it's come to a point where the infrastructure needs an upgrade, and we need to once again begin the battle against spammers.

The registrations were open and I'm sure there were some people interested in contributing but due to the spam we received, we have had to place restrictions on the signups to ensure that the spammers wouldn't win. Even with CAPTCHAs they hammered the servers so much that we had to lock down the wiki to get around them.

But, given that the site is doing better than I imagined, I think it's time to make a clearer, more condensed set of goals which can be more easily led, and the most important among them is to start to make this a community effort rather than just a small effort, and start to open the wiki to the public. This will mean hardening the site to block spambots and add in some rigorous checks to make sure we keep bots out, but let good people in.

So, there will be some lengthy infrastructural tasks to complete first, and then we'll be migrating servers to ensure that we can put out best foot forward and more easily make changes.

Once again thanks to all of you from all over the world who come here to this humble offering, I hope we can all work together in multiple languages to make the ragnarok wiki the home to ragnarok fans and their content.

Thanks! Halca
